Chih-Chun Hsiao was born in Bejing, China and attended Yenching University, Tsinghua University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His B.S., M.S. and Ph.D degrees were in mechanical engineering, physics and applied mechanics. His first teaching position was at Pennsylvania State University; he came to the University of Minnesota in 1955.
